So, what better time to look back at one our biggest social initiatives than in the month of LOVE?
BACKGROUND:
Education is very important to us, so when one of our long-term customers approached us to assist with a community open day project, we jumped at the opportunity.
THE GOAL:
Every year, this open day plays a critical role in developing the youth and exposing them to new fields and opportunities for growth and career development. With so many schools and youth in the area, we decided to introduce them to the mining sector and demonstrate the importance of this industry.
INTERESTING FACT:
Every year, the organisation receives thousands of job applications, of which about 80% are for mechanical and electrical apprenticeships.
HOW WE ASSISTED:
Despite the large number of applications, many young applicants do not have the skills required to succeed in instrumentation. Our goal was therefore to offer a fun day, packed with information and guidance. We introduced the youth to our products and shared our knowledge and expertise with them.
Our pneumatic expert from SMC South Africa was on site to demonstrate some highly engaging Pneumatic experiments and we showed off our very own LACCS Counter at the customer’s display. We also made sure to include the parents, to equip them with the skills to advise their child on how to apply to accredited institutions!
The open day was a big success, and we are thankful that we were able to expose this generation of youth to new trends and technology – including but not limited to:
- Brady: Lockout/tagout & industrial printers
- Siemens: Simocode training rigs and switchgear, pushbuttons, selector switches & stop/start stations
- SMC: Pneumatic training rigs, cylinders, filters and regulators and valves
- Inelco: Conveyor control, monitoring and safety switches (pull keys, belt rip and misalignment)
